Duck Dynasty's Phil takes a stand

Wow!  Phil was asked a question and gave an answer.  Now A&E is banning him.

Here is one of the responses that is in support of Phil.

I also find it interesting that Barbara Walter's is on TV with her most facinating people of 2013 and Duck Dynasty is #8 on her list. (Phil was not present during the interview because it was hunting season)

In a world where tollerence is herolded it appears that only applies to the other guy.

Why do all these groups of people feel that they should have the right not to be offended?"

If you don't want the answer don't ask the question.

For me - It was refreshing to see someone call sin for what it is.  I appreciate seeing someone trying to live a way of life that is not swayed by popular opinion but founded on beliefs and defended by the Bible.

Another site announcing the banning of Phil made it clear that his remarks were not A&E's views.  They went so far as to describe themselves as "Champions" for (sin?)....

The sidebar has (at the time of this writing) an advertisement and gallery including Phil and the Duck Dynasty family.  This really does blur the lines...

Merry Christmas / Peace on Earth

 A call to action.

Waiting for someone to do something...

(From HWL's poem "Christmas Bells")

And in Despair I bowed my head
"There is no peace on earth" I said
"for hate is strong and mocks the song
of Peace on earth, good-will to Men!"

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;
the Wrong shall fail, The Right Prevail
with Peace on earth, good-will to men."

Another thing crosses my mind when I think about this

 From "Les Mis"

"You've done your duty - Nothing more."

Still Waiting for someone to do something?

...What do You See?

As a Teacher and a parent I enjoy telling a good story.  My life has been interesting and I've learned some hard lessons which I have no problems defining as moments of "stupid".

I came across a story a few years ago titled Tanya's Reunion in which a Grandmother takes her granddaughter back to the family farm for a reunion. Grandmother wants to walk the path to the house and as they walk Tanya asks her Grandmother a question that goes much deeper than what most young people would ask.  She didn't ask questions about the farm as they walked.  She asked

"What do you see"?

I can almost see a smile on Grandmother's face as she looks around the farm and begins to remember the people and activities that were a part of her life on that farm...

Memories are important.  They give meaning and remind us of lessons and people that have been important in our lives.  Our stories are often the definition of what we do and why.

So this is my effort to remember and hopefully honor some important people in my life as well as describe places and events that have helped shape me.

These posts will be scattered so they are labeled "what do you see?"

Pain vs. Beauty

I found this recently and appreciate the perspective.  It has some spice but it's presented with passion and heart.

I'm concerned...

Lot's of talk and not much accomplished.  It seems to me that there are a lot of research that shows gun control impacts the legal firearm owner instead of the criminal.

 Chicago statistics are scary.

The options that have been offered up so far seem to be working on the wrong end of the equation.
