Winners Don't always come in First

I was talking with a student who is allowing her competitiveness get in the way of her kindness. Being first is more important than kindness. As much ability as she has, others still did not want to be around her.

I asked her who she would like to be friends with and she mentioned a couple of girls in the class - who let others go first and are rarely in the first half of the lines.

When I told her that winners don't always have to be first she almost cried.

I am still asking her to help others rather than get ahead of them but there are times that she makes me smile with her kindness.
